I’m very happy to announce my participation in an event at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art introducing “The Making of…”, a multimedia series produced by The Kitchen Sisters (kitchensisters.org) and KQED. On May 30th at 12:00pm I’ll be doing a talk about my work in the Koret Center, and on May 31st around noon I’ll be on the roof of the museum taking apart a typewriter. Check the calendar on the SFMOMA site for other talks and activities. Take note that the SFMOMA is closing soon afterward on June 2nd for a huge 3-year renovation and expansion, so this is your last chance to visit the museum for quite some time. I’m very excited to be included in this! My radio interview with Nikki and Davia will air May 28th on KQED. If you have any questions or need any other details feel free to ask me here, or check my FB page for updates.

Promo video for Issue #10 of Brazilian contemporary art magazine SANTA. Shows the work and studios of Maria Lynch, Daniel Senise, and Luiza Baldan. At the end of the clip it shows the cover, which has my sculpture Bust IV on it.

Progress on Nude V

Quick sketch for Nude VI. She’ll be about 6ft.(2m) tall.

A still from the as-yet-untitled movie that filmmaker Doug Nichol is working on. It’s about the current state of the typewriter in popular culture. This was a few months ago when I was just about done with Marvyn.

Sketching on a rainy day. Swallows. A commission.

Don’t like to do cute stuff, but here we are.

During the year or so that I was working on the Marvyn Pelzner portrait, there were two photos (among the many that his son Mark lent me to look at) that I kept coming back to. I wanted to catch a glimmer of the young Marvyn in the sculpture.

This is my latest project- a portrait commission.

The client, Mark Pelzner, came to me with 3 typewriters bequeathed to him by his late father, Marvyn Pelzner. Mark wanted me to take those typewriters and make a likeness of his dad that would be mounted on a box which holds Marvyn’s ashes.

There are some parts in the sculpture that came from other typewriters in my stash, but most of the parts are from Marvyn’s typewriters. The eyes, for example, are made from his Smith Corona desktop, the shoulders from his Underwood portable, and parts of the head were from his desktop Underwood No. 5.

Marvyn was an Optometrist in the San Francisco Bay Area who was a big San Francisco Giants fan and a doting grandfather.

Many thanks to the Pelzner family for coming to me to work on such a powerful and personal project. I feel very fortunate to have been entrusted to do this.

As usual, I made this using only typewriter parts- no solder, no glue, no welding, no armature.

Here’s the talk I did at TEDx GoldenGatePark at the deYoung Museum in San Francisco.

Had a great time with an excellent group of people!

This was the first TEDx filmed in stereoscopic 3D, which can be seen here in a variety of 3D viewing formats. It was shot by Golden Gate 3D and Area 5

Here’s the playlist for all of the talks from TEDx GoldenGatePark.

Did this squirrel for my girlfriend a while back. I don’t remember if I posted it.

It’s typewriter parts- about 8 inches (20cm) tall.

Work in progress.
